This is the Isdaan Floating Restaurant located along the provincial highway in Gerona, Tarlac.

We stopped by the place while on our way back to Manila from Pangasinan. Cabanas that serve as dining area are all over the place floating in the fishponds containing goit fishes. There are many interesting statues in the area. There are giant fishes positioned as if they were "nabingwit". Monkeys in various positions, the different human like statues, a dinosaur, as well as normal size statues of Ninoy, Cory, Cardinal Sin and some security guards. The place is still expanding as they are adding some Buddha statues around the area.

The foods are of local Filipino flavor.
A Weekend trip to Manaoag

We expected it to be crowded but not as crowded when we arrived there. The few times I went to Manaoag, it was on a weekday. A couple of kilometers away from the church compound, there were already barkers offering a small space along the street for vehicles to park. I’m not sure if the parking activity is regulated by the Barangay as they are charging for a fix parking rate instead of just waiting for a tip.

Going inside the church for the mass, one can see the large crowd coming in and out of the church. Luckily for us we were able to position ourselves near the window, thus getting some gentle wind during the mass.

After the mass, the church personnel prohibited the people in staying inside to take some picture, as there are many people inside and the next mass is approaching. Stopping and taking photos inside stalls the movement of the human traffic coming in and out of the church.

Going up the back of the altar to touch the Lady of Manaoa...

A Visit to Manila Zoo

I don’t want to go to the mall and since I have my camera with me, I decided to spend those hours in Manila zoo, which is just nearby.

The Manila Zoological and Botanical Garden opened on 1959. It provided the public with interesting information on the Philippine flora and fauna.

The last time I was there was around 2005. Nothing much changes since then. The entrance fee is P40 and P20 for Manila residents. The elephant is still there; I think it has been there for more than 20 years. It is still the most famous attraction in the area. The children simply love that elephant, which was playing a block of ice with fruits in it.

I was looking for “Simba”, but I wasn’t able to see it in the lion’s den. I’m not sure if it is inside the cave or if it already passed away. The animals in the cages looked really stressed out specially the elephant and the monkeys.&nbsp...

A piece of God's Green Earth: La Mesa Eco Park

And when an opportunity to visit it came, with no conflict in schedule, I simply couldn’t resist it. Together with friends from MIP – Rey, Dodong, Jovy, Jen, Aldwin, Albert, Ronald and Dennis (who again followed), we visited the La Mesa Eco Park in Fairview Q.C to do some photo shooting. Rey, Jen, Aldwin, Ronald and I met at the Quezon Memorial Circle; the others we are to meet at the Eco Park, Dodong and Jovy were already there when we arrived.

The first thing one would notice upon entering the park is the lush vegetation. Big trees surround the park, which is part of the water shed for the La Mesa water reservoir. And to think that some people in the government want to cut most of the trees and convert a good portion of the area into a housing area.
Trees welcome visitors to the park

Park Landscape

Water an integral part of the park

There are lots of activities that all members of the families can enjoy while ...

The case of the Missing Chocolate Hills and Mayon Volcano

I read in several posting over the web that the Chocolate Hills and Mayon Volcano is nowhere to be found in the list of candidates in the New 7 wonders of nature. I checked the site and it is not in the list of nominees. The Chocolate Hills is consistently at the top 10 while Mayon is within striking distance. Tubbataha Reef is currently at the 7th spot. I wondering why they took out the 2 natural wonders of the Philippines from the list of candidates. There were no explanation in their website.

Is this a case of "dagdag bawas"?

see link for news on this issue: http://ourphil.blogspot.com/

Church hopping in Bulacan II (Visita Iglesia 2008)

Via Mc Arthur highway, Calumpit is the last town before Pampanga. The town’s church is not within the highway but about 500m in one of the inner streets of the town.
Calumpit Church

The St. John the Baptist Church is the oldest in Bulacan. The church had been a witness to the Filipino’s struggle against the Spanish, American and Japanese rule. Inside the church is a tunnel, which according to history, was used by priest during the Spanish regime to keep gold, religious statues and ornate jewelry to hide them from the site of treasure hunters. It is in this tunnel that revolutionaries and Spaniards were buried during the war. The church was also the last battlefield of Gen. Tanaka during WWII. Given its history, I wonder why there isn't any Historical marker in the church.

The next stop is the church of Pulilan, which is just along the Calumpit-Pulilan highway. Another century old church, San Isidro Labrador Church is one of the most historical churches in the Province of ...

Church hopping in Bulacan I (Visita Iglesia 2008)

It was a late minute decision that we go to Bulacan for this year’s Visita Iglesia. The only notable church that I know in Bulacan is Barasoain. So I checked the web for other churches we can visit. I also tried to remember the location of the different towns of Bulacan where we will look for the local church.
We started the trip to Bulacan 5:00 AM Thursday. I was hoping to arrive in Malolos a little over an hour, but the traffic in Edsa going to NLEX was really heavy that we arrived around 7 in the morning. Our first stop was Barasoain Church (Our Lady of Mt. Carmel), as this would serve as our take off point to the different towns. Arriving early there would give me the opportunity to take a photo of the church without any cars blocking the view.

Barasoain Church

After taking a few shoots outside I went inside for the Station of the Cross. The church is not that big as I thought it would be. The church has been a witness to Philippine History. I wondered if the walls co...
